-TOPIA submission guidelines and requirements:

uTOPIA. dysTOPIA. girlTOPIA. Our individual lives are inextricable from the communities we build. Your lovers, friends and families, the strangers you pass on the sidewalk, your nemesis, the landscape around you; all of these are elements of your TOPIA. What are your hopes, your fears, your daydreams about the infinite connections between us all?

Submissions should be on the theme of (dis)connectedness, community, society, the neighborhood/city/state. Submissions may take any form that can be printed: visual art, poetry, fiction, or non-fiction.

Written submissions are limited to 4000 words in length; visual media submissions are limited to two pages (one “spread,” if you will).

For our visual artists, page size is 5.8” by 8.3”.

Copies will be printed and bound in paperback by a local company.

Submissions must be in two parts:

(1) the submission itself, with title, but otherwise anonymous, and

(2) a separate document with your name, title of your submission, and contact information.

If selected for publication, you must be willing to present your work at the TOPIA launch party on March 20, 2027.

Submissions are due by 11:59pm on January 31, 2027.

Statumen requires a nonrefundable submission fee of $15, which also gets you one copy of the journal. You may preorder additional copies for $17; copies will be available at the launch party for $20.

You must submit to get the $15 price!

As to why I have to charge: publishing is expensive, and I simply can’t foot the bill out of my own pocket. Statumen is not profit-seeking.

Information about where your money goes can be found below by clicking Submission and preorders.
